Hi, my fellow nature and animal lovers! I’m Heather Irwin, owner and professional photographer of Feathers and Tails Photography. Welcome to Feather’s Creative Corner, a center not just for photography but a way to be creative in all aspects of your life. With a passion for helping others capture the beauty of the world around them and years of experience behind the lens I have developed a distinctive style that blends technical skills with a deep respect for the subjects, whether they are people or animals in their natural habitat or a best friend to a pet owner I love learning new ways to see the connection we have in this place we call earth. I specialize in animals but photography has shown me how to be authentic in my passions and teaching others how to find that in themselves as well. As a dedicated photography educator teaching others in helping them unlock their creative potential and master the art of visual storytelling. Through workshops and one-on-one instruction, I break down the complex technical concepts and simplify the photography process so you can have fun while you learn. From mastering camera settings to developing an eye for composition my focus is to create hands-on learning with my students and guide them to develop their own sense of style and perspective while gaining confidence in their craft.

My work captures the essence of the human experience on this planet, focusing on authentic moments and emotions that resonate deeply. In wildlife photography I combine my patience and expertise to capture the raw beauty of our world that is disappearing because we aren’t grounded with nature. With technology taking over I have found that nature allows me to go back to my roots and why it is great to be alive. Nature has so many mysteries and oddities. It is magical and full of wonder. Through workshops, students gain not only technical proficiency but also a deeper connection to the world of photography, learning how to see, feel, and create in ways they never imagined. Whether you’re looking to improve your portrait photography skills or capture the awe-inspiring beauty of wildlife, I offer the tools, techniques and guidance to help you succeed.

After being in the veterinary field for 15 years, I found that my passion was in photographing them. I took a leap of faith and changed my career. I realized it was the most courageous thing I had ever done because I let myself be vulnerable. I’m going to tell you a secret…..it truly is the secret to success...to happiness…and to your life. Vulnerability is the uncertainty, the risk, and the emotional exposure you put out into the world. I believe being strong really comes from the soul. It’s putting your heart on your sleeve not out of fear but out of courage to be yourself and to let others see what you have to offer.

Creating this business is important to me because I wanted to go after my dreams in spite of the fear. I needed to show the world how much I want to inspire and create amazing forms of art in many different ways.

When I became a mom for the first time with TWINS, that was the Aha moment for me. I had no idea what I was doing! Maybe I had made a mistake that I could do something like be a mom to little humans! I had no idea how hard it actually was until I was neck deep in them..… by the way new moms I want to tell you that feeling doesn’t go away but you do get more comfortable with it as time goes by. Hang in there it does pay off through giggles and smiles. I am six years in now (alive and healthy!) and I have finally seen all that I have done because I let myself be vulnerable. I hope to inspire and educate my peeps (not chicks, you guys!) so you don’t feel alone on your journey.
